Students explore next steps with EMA social care

EMA students on the Preparation for Adulthood study programme have been making regular visits to the new EMA Social Care location in Dorchester town centre as they explore their future options for when they graduate from education.
These visits give them a first-hand look at the facilities used by our current day opportunities attendees, allowing them to experience the diverse activities that take place on-site.
Recent trips included making pizzas—combining the use of various cooking and life skills, all contributing to the development of their independence. Tutor Jodie shared some insight: “They all engaged so well and really enjoyed making the pizzas. They were so impressed with the new location. They made great use of the recreational area for a few games of pool and foosball, and in the afternoon took part in arts and crafts and puzzles—all alongside the current social care service users, who were more than happy to show them around. We also all took trip to The Royal Oak, Bere Regis for a game of skittles, a brilliant way to get out into the community.”
EMA’s education and social care teams often work in tandem to provide the best possible opportunities for all who attend and the new location in Dorchester is enriching the experience for everyone.
“Allowing our education students to visit and engage with our social care provisions helps them explore their potential next steps. For those continuing with EMA, this marks the beginning of their transition from education to social care. Ensuring a positive and well-planned transition is crucial in supporting their confidence, independence, and long-term success. We love having the students visit!” – Craig, Head of EMA Social Care
