Education Advisory Committee – Volunteers Wanted

Are you passionate about improving the lives of young people aged between 16 and 25 with learning disabilities, and Special Educational Needs & Disabilities, in Dorset and the surrounding areas?

Join us across two unique settings to help us with the exciting next steps on our journey of preparing young people for adulthood.

We are looking for two voluntary Education Advisors to join our established Education Advisory Committee, which brings together staff members, student input, an ex-student, and external advisors from varied backgrounds, all of whom provide a nuanced view on our educational delivery. We are looking for interested and committed individuals who would like to play a part in our development as we move into our tenth year of providing high quality education to the young people of Dorset.

The Education Advisors support our Trustees and Senior Management Team in the day-to-day responsibility for the governance of our Independent Specialist College status as we move towards our first full OFSTED inspection.

Education Advisor for Safeguarding

This role focuses on Safeguarding, with the specific responsibility of providing support, knowledge, and objective challenge to how we safeguard our students.

You will work directly with our Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring that policies are up to date, being followed and are having a positive effect, and will report to our Education Advisory Committee in line with the expectations set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Education Advisor for CEIAG

This role focuses on supporting and challenging all aspects of the careers provision that is embedded into our curriculum. We strive to ensure that our students are enabled, encouraged, and supported to explore and experience different vocational and academic areas with the intent of them making meaningful decisions about their future career options.

You will work directly with our SMT Careers Lead in shaping strategy and policy, guiding on best practice, and assist with the completion, analysis, and management of our careers activities against the Gatsby Benchmarks (Compass tool).

What we are looking for

Ideally, both positions call for an individual who has had experience of the safeguarding, and/or careers requirements within an educational setting, or another relevant environment.

We would like a commitment from our Education Advisors of attending a termly committee meeting, as well as being involved in our Internal Quality Assurance Audit when safeguarding controls, and careers delivery/management are observed. Further site visits during the year to support safeguarding and careers would also be appreciated.

We welcome enquiries from anyone who feels that they have a contribution to make. In particular people with a legal, financial, audit, human resources or a secondary/further education leadership background are especially encouraged to enrich our current skill mix.

Both roles may be filled by one individual, if the right person with the relevant skillset can be found.

If you are interested, please email compliance@employmyability.org.uk in the first instance and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Any appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS check being undertaken.
